Rukungiri High Court has convened its maiden Regional Coordination Committee (RCC) meeting, marking a key milestone in enhancing stakeholder collaboration and improving justice delivery across the Circuit.
The meeting, chaired by Resident Judge Lady Justice Susan Kanyange, brought together actors from the Justice, Law and Order Sector (JLOS), including the Assistant Registrar Hellen Atigo, the Resident District Commissioner, Chief Magistrate and Magistrates Grade I, representatives from the Uganda Police Force, Uganda Prisons Service, and the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP).
Members of the legal fraternity and the Chief Administrative Officer also participated.
Discussions focused on strengthening collaboration among stakeholders, promoting Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) mechanisms, addressing operational challenges, reducing case backlogs, streamlining court processes, and improving court infrastructure.
Stakeholders shared experiences and proposed practical measures to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of the justice system in the region.
Justice Kanyange highlighted achievements within the Circuit, including the handling of bail applications, disposal of juvenile cases from Kabale, plea bargaining sessions, and a supervisory visit to Nyarushanje Magistrates Court.
She also noted the identified site for future court construction and emphasized the importance of sustained stakeholder partnerships.
The meeting resolved to establish structured working relations among stakeholders, regularly report progress to the RCC, and hold meetings on a quarterly basis. Participants described the gathering as a significant step in promoting coordinated efforts for improved court operations and effective justice delivery in the Rukungiri Circuit.
